Electronic Claims


The very thought of switching to electronic claims can be scary. A few years ago there were horror stories floating around - but times have changed and the process has been improved.

So, why would you want to start sending your claims electronically?

Efficient Processing

FormSmith completes the electronic claim that you send to the clearing house or directly to the insurance company. Then "click" and your claims are transmitted.

Direct Claim Submission

Electronic claims receive priority processing. Paper claims are processed at the insurance company only after manual sorting and batching. If your claim is rejected, it has to be returned to you for correction - this can take several days, even weeks. With electronic submisison, you know right away if a claim is rejected.

Since your claims go direct, there is no chance that your claims can get lost or mis-directed in the mail. Did you ever get mail in your mail box that was addressed to someone else?

Faster Turnaround

Filing claims electronically eliminates time wasted on mail float. Instead of the usual 45 day turnaround to receive funds, you can receive payment and an EOB in as little as 7-14 days.

Direct Saving

Save on claim forms, envelopes and postage (postage is due to go up again).

Since claims are not printed, printer usage is cut resulting in savings in printer ink (or cartridge use) as well as the wear and tear on the printer itself. No more interrupted print jobs caused by running out of ink or forms or from paper jams and the resulting reprinting of the claims.

Staff time is reduced because they don't have to stuff the envelopes, address them then calculate and affix postage (no more using too much or too little postage).

With select clearing houses (we recommend Gateway EDI) the tedious process of filing your secondary claims can be automated. You file your claim normally, when the primary pays, the clearing house automatically files the secondary for you - you don't have to touch it.

FormSmith can read the electronic EOB, put the payments into the patient ledgers, calculate any writeoffs and apply them to the ledgers and tag the claim and services as having been paid.
